Mistletoe has a very long tradition that reaches up to Celtic beliefs. For these peoples, mistletoe warded off misfortune and disease, bringing luck and serenity. For the Celts, mistletoe was also a symbol of the survival of life after death and resurrection and was one of the most precious plants of Celtic herbal medicine, associated with the life of kings or leaders. It was the plant dedicated to Imbolc and was cut from the tree that hosted it during a Yule ceremony. It is now associated with Christmas and there is a tradition of kissing under the mistletoe as a wish for good luck.
